Mother Nature is filled with surprises. She’s packed with hidden jewels and presents. But we tend to overlook those things because of how common or mundane they appear. Take for example the humble dandelion plant. We’ve been using this plant medicinally for centuries now, yet no one seems to know anything about it anymore. This plant is often neglected because it is just a weed and found in abundance. However, once you read on, you’ll never look at the modest dandelion plant the same way again.
So, what’s so great about the dandelion plant? Among other things, medical researchers have “discovered” its potential to cure cancer. Apparently, the root of the plant builds up blood and immune system- cures prostate, lung, and other cancers better than chemotherapy. Ontario, Canada Based Windsor Regional Cancer Centre’s Dr. Carolyn Hamm reported that dandelion root extract was the only thing that helped chronic myelomonocytic leukemia patients.
The doctor advised one of his patients, John Di Carlo, who was 72-years old at the time, to drink dandelion root tea as a last ditch effort. Carlo told CBC News that his cancer went into remission only four months later. And the best part? His doctors attributed this success to the dandelion tea he was drinking.
Recent studies show just how fast they work against cancer- 48 hours of coming into contact with dandelion root extract, cancerous cells begin to disintegrate. While the disintegration takes place, your body promptly replaces those with healthy brand new cells.
Furthermore, the root extract also has anti-cancer properties for cancers such as- breast, colon, prostate, liver, and lung. The taste of this root tea isn’t as pleasing as other teas. But it’s a small price to pay, in our opinion. Plus, you don’t have to live with the nasty side effects of chemo and radiation therapies. Isn’t that what everyone wants?
Conventional anti-cancer therapies harm not only cancer cells but your immune system as well. They just kill all cells. Period. This method, in the long run, does you more harm than good. Dandelion root however, does no such thing. In fact it’s quite the contrary. The root extract boosts your immune system while targeting infected cells. Isn’t that how treatments are supposed to be?
While consuming dandelion root tea, Dr. Hamm warns that it can negatively impact the effects of chemotherapy. So, it is always best to consult with your oncologist and let them know any supplements or foods you are on.
The miracles of dandelion tea aren’t just limited to people who suffer from cancer, you know? In reality, anyone can and ought to eat the greens or drink dandelion tea for better health. The roots and stems of dandelion help the pancreas stimulate insulin, which helps in fighting diabetes and also stabilize spikes in blood sugar levels.
Dandelion tea contains vitamins and minerals that help cleanse the liver. The liver is where the toxins of your body get filtered out. Not to mention, the liver aids the digestive system by producing bile and filters the blood of chemicals and other impurities. So by protecting and strengthening your liver, dandelion tea is actually strengthening your digestive system and overall health.
High in antioxidants and vitamin C, dandelions are crucial to helping your body fight off illness and infections. If you’re a constant victim of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) then drinking dandelion tea on a daily basis may prevent another infection ever again.
As long as your dandelions haven’t been exposed to harmful chemicals they are completely safe to eat. The greens of the plant may be bitter to taste but are rich in fiber. And we all know how big of a role fiber plays for intestinal and digestive health. Obesity, heart disease, irritable bowel syndrome, etc. can all be lowered by high fiber diets.
The greens are also packed with vitamin A. Vitamin A is vital for maintaining healthy vision, and preventing premature aging of the skin. Just one cup makes sure you get 100% of your recommended daily dosage. We admit, a cup of just greens may not be to your liking. However, you can incorporate it to your morning smoothie or juice it with your favorite fruit to get the edge off the bitterness.
