Nature sure is weird. And our bodies even weirder. I mean, did you know that one of the secrets to a healthy body is to keep it slightly alkaline? I didn’t. It’s so simple to achieve alkalinity. All you need to do is make your own alkaline water. And BAM! There you have it, your very own DIY anti-cancer tonic.
If you’ve wondered over to the supermarket or health food store, then you’ve probably noticed bottled alkaline water for sale. It’s sad to see that good things have a huge price tag associated with them. It’s not like the occasional bottle will break the bank or anything. But if you want to drink this stuff on a daily basis to see for yourself it’s wonderful health benefits; then you might not like the hole it’ll burn in your wallet.
First and foremost, why does alkalinity matter? Well, way back in 1930, Dr. Otto Warburg, a Nobel Laureate, discovered that cancer cells couldn’t grow in the presence of oxygen. His exact statement: “All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen. Deprive a cell of 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours, and it may become cancerous.”
What does this have to do with alkalinity? As it turns out, alkaline environments are highly oxygenated. Thus, the conclusion that alkaline water may prevent or fight against cancer. For those of you who are wondering, acidity or alkalinity of a substance is measured by the pH scale. Chemistry courses in high schools and colleges cover this topic very early on, and if you’ve attended one, you may remember it. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, where 0 is the most acidic, and 14 is the most alkaline. Seven is neutral.
A healthy blood pH without cancer has a very good acid and alkaline balance, almost equal actually. However, a 7.4 on the pH scale is the ideal pH of the body. This shows that the body is truly healthy and in its best shape. A 7.4 means the body is slightly on the alkaline side of neutral. This is what you want. Unfortunately, our modern diet, chemicals, and stress make us slightly acidic on the inside. This can be very bad in the long run. Processed foods, excess sugar, caffeine, and alcohol that we consume on a regular basis are highly acid forming. Consuming such a diet can push you further down the pH scale to more acidity.
According to Dr. David Williams: “Maintaining this slightly alkaline state is a constant challenge, primarily because of the acid-forming functions that take place within the body, and the overabundance of acid-producing foods we consume.”
Dr. Williams further points out the symptoms of an unbalanced pH level:
1. Chronic Fatigue
2. Shortness of breath
3. Frequent Sighing
4. Muscle pain even after taking short walks.
5. Feeling like you can’t get enough air/oxygen.
If you feel any of these symptoms, then please buy one of those saliva pH test strips. These can help you accurately determine what side of the scale you’re on. Saliva closely mirrors the blood pH level, so all you have to do is get some spit on it.
Let’s say you did the test, and you’re on a slightly acidic level. Fear not, we present the following to aid you:
Recipe for Alkaline Water:
– 1 tablespoon pink Himalayan Salt
– One organic lemon, peeled and sliced
– 2 liters of distilled water.
Mix all the ingredients in a large glass pitcher. Please avoid plastic pitchers as it can leach toxic chemicals back into the water.
Cover, and let sit for 12-24 hours.
For best results, drink three glasses of this solution every morning on an empty stomach.
